Maintaining Originality, Integrity, and Responsible Scholarly Publishing
Plagiarism and Similarity Policy
The Indonesian Journal of Applied Science Innovation Outcomes (IJASIO) is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and responsible scholarly communication. All submitted manuscripts are expected to contain original scholarly contributions and must appropriately acknowledge the work of other authors.
To support this commitment, manuscripts submitted to IJASIO may be subjected to similarity screening before and/or during the editorial and peer-review process. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts do not contain plagiarism, inappropriate copying, or substantial unattributed use of previously published material.
Similarity Threshold
IJASIO applies the following similarity thresholds as an editorial screening guideline:
The overall similarity index should be below 15%.
Similarity from any single source should be below 3%.
Plagiarism Screening Process
Manuscript Submission
Authors submit manuscripts through the official IJASIO editorial management system.
Similarity Screening
The manuscript may be checked using an appropriate similarity-detection system.
Editorial Assessment
Editors assess the similarity report and examine the context of matched content.
Editorial Decision
The editor determines whether further revision, clarification, or other editorial action is required.
Interpretation of Similarity Results
A similarity report identifies textual overlap between a manuscript and other documents. A similarity percentage does not, by itself, establish that plagiarism has occurred.
Editors may consider the location, nature, context, and source of matched text. Legitimate similarities may occur in references, standard terminology, technical expressions, commonly used phrases, methodology descriptions, quotations, or other appropriately attributed material.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscripts meet the originality and citation requirements of IJASIO.
- Submit original scholarly work.
- Properly cite and acknowledge all sources used in the manuscript.
- Use quotation marks and appropriate citations for directly quoted material.
- Clearly identify and cite previously published material that is reused or substantially derived from earlier work.
- Avoid submitting substantially identical manuscripts to multiple journals simultaneously.
- Review the similarity report when requested by the editorial team and make appropriate revisions.
- Provide clarification or supporting information when requested by the editors concerning potentially problematic similarities.
Forms of Plagiarism
Copying another person's words or material without appropriate quotation and attribution.
Combining or modifying material from sources without adequate acknowledgment.
Rewriting source material too closely without appropriate citation or attribution.
Reusing substantial portions of an author's previous work without appropriate disclosure or citation.
Manuscripts Exceeding the Similarity Threshold
If a manuscript exceeds the stated similarity thresholds, the editorial team may request the authors to revise the manuscript, clarify the source of the similarity, provide appropriate citations, or address other concerns identified during screening.
Where substantial unattributed overlap or other evidence of plagiarism is identified, the manuscript may be rejected or subjected to further editorial investigation in accordance with the journal's publication-ethics procedures.
Plagiarism Identified After Publication
If credible concerns regarding plagiarism are raised after publication, IJASIO may conduct an editorial assessment and request explanations or supporting documentation from the authors and other relevant parties.
Depending on the seriousness and evidence of the issue, the journal may publish a correction, clarification, expression of concern, retraction, or take another appropriate editorial action to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
Role of Editors and Reviewers
Editors
Editors review similarity results in context and may request clarification, revision, or further investigation when potentially problematic overlap is identified.
Reviewers
Reviewers may identify apparent plagiarism, inappropriate reuse, missing attribution, or other concerns and should communicate such concerns confidentially to the editor.
Originality and Academic Integrity
Similarity thresholds are used as editorial screening guidelines and are interpreted together with the content and context of the manuscript.
Original Research • Proper Attribution • Academic Integrity
Authors are expected to uphold the highest standards of originality, responsible citation, and academic integrity throughout the submission and publication process.
